 2.0 The working window CoMa

You will see a GEM window with several operating elements after the call-up of
the programme CoMa or the menu input "CoMa" in the first pull-down menu desk.

Your name is already displayed in the top line as well as the sending
identification which every fax will receive as first line. The address and the
relevant fax number is entered already if you have activated an entry in the
customer and supplier file at our office software. This will be displayed on the
top text page which you can send on its own or with other fax pages according to
your preferences. Perhaps in the position of the address field of a normal DIN A
4 standard letter.

Exactly underneath is the entry field for the fax number.

At the bottom you will find the information how to interrupt a fax transmission
without delay. Press the control key and the right shift key together, or if
there is still no CONNECT use the keys "undo" or "Esc"!

The second dial command (chapter 1.9) is send to the modem with the button "no
dialling" and the fax transmission proceeds without dialling a telephone
number. This functions only if your partner has got a combi fax on the telephone
line or a modem that can receive fax.

The right side of the working window contains a number of choice buttons which
branch out various functions or window dialogues. We have described the select
button "parameter" in chapter 1 already, this button opens the dialogue box for
the home position.

Every select button will be explained at length in this chapter.

You can leave the window like all GEM windows by clicking the close button on
the left corner of the head line.

2.1 select button "Info"

You recall a dialogbox with information about our company and the number of the
CoMa version with this button. You can enter the registration key here in order
to create a fully functioning programme from the shareware/cripple ware version.
Chapter 2.17 will explain again the creation of the registered version or an
update.

The dialogbox also shows you the existing free memory. You can change the
display of the helplines and error messages from English to German with the
button "Deutsche Meldungen". The original default setting is English.

2.2 select button for 8 fax pages

Before we talk about different formats which you can send with CoMA we will
explain the meaning of the buttons 1 to 8 below the address.

CoMa can display in a pre-view 8 fax pages in one GEM window each. All 8 pages
are shown at the same time. We should not forget to mention two principle
problems.

  1. Size of the screen!

You can only display the view in the 12% zoom in a 14" monitor, it is impossible
to get physically more onto the screen.

  2. Not enough RAM (computer memory)

You can only display 4 pages with a 4 MB memory. A 200 dpi DIN A4 page needs
good 600 kB memory. If the fax pages are smaller than A4 more pages can be
displayed.

It makes no difference if the first page to be send is a 1st Word Document (or
any other ASCII-text) or the second a IMG-graphic or the third page a fax file.
You can mix all 8 pages as you wish.

Should it happen that you want to send more than 8 pages you have to bypass via
the folder in which you copy all pages you want to send. You cannot pre-view
here. A dark grey select button shows the activated window. The orders explained
further down are "Save IMG" and "Print" which will only work for the activated
window.

You can close a fax window by clicking the closing button top left or with a
click on the alternate key + left mouse button onto the number button.

2.3 Pop-Up-Menu for the fax window

All the functions for the fax window are together in a special pop-up-menu. So
you can chose a zoom factor for every window.

You find the following commands and functions here:

Call up the main dialog

change zoom factor

change kontrast

turn the window about 180'

open the text editor

load and save the clipboard

save the page as IMG file

print this page

save as Hufman fax file

The last function helps you to make a high compressed Hufman fax file out of a
low compressed IMG file. You can get a 200kB file out of a 600kB file!

You will need this function if you want to send more than 8 fax pages in a
folder if one or more pages are IMG or ASCII files. Now you can convert these
files into Hufman fax files, put them in a folder together and send them.

You can have 99 faxfiles in this folder.

2.4 select button "text"

If you want to send a short fax message you do not have to call up a different
programme but you can edit the message in the dialogbox selected with this
button. You can type the text like in every other texteditor.

The editor window has a pop-up-menu where you find the standard functions for an
editor.

If you mix your text with a grafic logo you have to create a default text with
keywords for the faxnumber, the name of the client or the time. The keywords
available now can be found in chapter 2.27.

The words are broken up extentrically at the moment though (we are still working
on it). It is unavoudable to rework the line break to the next line by hand .
You can go into the next line via the return key or with the arrow key.

If you want to store the text you can do this with the key "save" and re-read it
again with "load".

If you want to leave the editor use the key "enter" the top page will be
displayed immediately. If you have adjusted to 100% zoom factor only part of the
page will be displayed on a 14" monitor. Switch to 25 or 12% (keys "+" and "-"
from the number block) and the page will be displayed as an overview. Should you
wish to shift the display you can do so via the 'shifters' in the right and left
screen corners. This is easier with our shift function. Hold down the left mouse
key and you will see a little hand appearing on the screen. As long as you hold
down the key you can shift the screen contents in all directions. You do not
have to additionally 'grab' with the mouse because the integrated mouse speeder
takes care that you move across the whole page with one movement.

It is possible to reduce the page with the function 'zoom'. You are able to view
the whole width of a page even on a screen with 640x400 points. If you then
adjust the zoom factor to 25% in the window 'parameter' you will be able to view
a complete A4 page on the screen.

Once you viewed the fax page you can recall the hidden main dialogue box with a
click of the right mouse key onto the faxwindow or the F10 key in order to start
the function send.

2.5 Select buttons 'Load IMG'

If you activate the function with a click of the button the file select box
appears and you can enter the name and the path for the pixel graphic.

Select the Pixel graphic with a double click and it will be displayed on the
screen and is ready to fax. The screen layout is ten times faster compared to a
fax file. Fax files are codes according to the Hufmann process and have to be
decoded before display.

You are able to copy the active IMG page with ctrl + C key into the clipboard
and you can recall it again with ctrl + V. The same route applies for copying a
graphic from the graphic programme into the active CoMa window.

File select is extremely easy with file select box 'Selectric' by Stefan
Radermacher. You can select several files in one go with this soft ware. CoMa
loads the fax pages into a GEM window then.

Some customers requested the possibility to load a received fax into the graphic
programme in oder to process it there. A newly received fax can be stored as
Pixel graphic in IMG format with 'save IMG' or via the function 'load IMG.

If you want to translate a Fax file into a IMG file you can do this with the
function "Save IMG" which you find in the pop-up-menue of the active fax window.

2.6 select button "record", "play" and take off"

You can use a relevant modem as answering machine with CoMa Voice. Calls will be
automatically differentiated and the digital answer machine will be activated.
answering text for 7 time tracks are available. This function is only available
at additional cost at the moment and only supports the Zyxel Modem and the
Creatix LC144VF, what has a very good price.

The standard version of CoMa encludes all voice function as a demo. You can
record only ten seconds. Chapter 3 tells you all about CoMa Voice.

2.7 print faxpages

CoMa contains a print routine in order to print the received fax after reading.
Because of the problem between various print commands for different printers we
have implemented a direct print for the most popular print standards. For HP
desk jet, HP laserjet and all compatibles who understand the standard PCL 2 to
5. The desk jet is an ink jet printer which manages very good print results on
the right paper with a resolve of 300 dpl. The laserjet is a laser printer which
is available as emulation on nearly all laser printers.

Befor printing you have to make some adjustments. The button "parameter" in the
main window has the function "printer" whitch calls up the printer parameter
box.

Lets explain these printers first of all a bit more.

   HP desk jet and laserjet

If one takes a close look at the process of the GEM print routine one has to
notice that the output rate is not very desirable. Furthermore, the HP printers
contain a nasty error in constraining the computer in a strict sequence after
switch on. You are not able to switch on all components via a central switch.

This problem as well as the low out put rate can be eliminated by activating the
button 'HP direct' The printer interface will be called up directly and the
switch on error of the printer will be eliminated as well as the output rate
increased by factor 5 to 10. Should there be a system in the futur that serves
the printer port efficiently you only have to deactivate the button 'HP direct'
and switch on 'hp laser/desk jet'.

You'll have to follow this path as well if the interface is positioned at a
different hardware address in a future Atari computer. The hardware addresses of
the interface are identical for the 260 ST of the first generation to the new
Falcon at the moment.

   Perforation Jump

It can happen that one A4 page is distributed on 2 pages if you have set the
perforation jump on the HP desk jet via DIP switch. In order to avoid this it is
recommended to activate this button. The perforation is then switched off via
software but will remain installed as hardware.

   No centronics check

This button is only interesting for owners of the ATARI laser printer. Should
you own such a printer you have to activate this button if you have not
installed the delivered Diabolo Emulator. Otherwise there will be no print outs
but the error message 'printer not ready'.

   GDOS print routines

It would be extremely tiresome to programme for all sorts of printers for a
small accessory print routine. It is also not necessary because of the so called
GDOS (graphic device operating system).

All drivers (not bound in the actual operating system) for monitor, keys and
printer are found here. It would not be sensible to inflate the operating system
with all printer drivers. We show in chapter 2.71 in easy steps how a GDOS
should look like. Unfortunately the installation of a well function ng GDOS is
not trivial. It also reminds us on the nearly forgotten process of MS-DOS times,
in which the user was pushed to the border of insanity when creating CONFIG.SYS
and last not least a wear off of the 3 keys control, alternate and delete (it is
still driving users insane these days. keyword OS/2 and COM3 + COMA4l).

   Full page

In the lower border of the dialogue box you will see a button which adapts the
print to the size of the printer resolve. A fax is transmitted in 200 dpl (old
computers 100 dpl). The fax page will be reduced if your output device operates
with 300 dpl, but this enhances the quality.

The fax page will be re-calculated accordingly if you prefer to print a full A4
page and activate the button 'full page'. The print out will be a bit coarser (a
basic problem if increasing a pixel graphic).

   file select button (A.\INCOMING)

You have the possibility to name a fax file directly in order to print it. The
file select box in which to select the required file appears via a click on the
large select button (pre-set file path INCOMING)

All pages on one fax will be printed if the file name differs only in the
extension.

Another condition is that the extension is numbered continuously. That means:
filename.F01, filename F02, filename F03 etc. If you select the print and start
at filename.f01 all 3 pages will be printed consecutively.

   600dpi

If you activate this button your are able to print a fax page in exelent quality
on a HP Laserjet 4P (or compatible) with 600 dpi. Every pixel is multiplied by
3. Your print will look much better than as a re-calculated 300 dpi print!

Print immed. (immediate print after receive)

All pages of a received fax will be printed immediately after receive if you
activate this button. If you use your Atari as a fax machine you will see
immediately after your return who has send faxes to you. If several pages are
received all will be printed immediately. Condition for this is that th pages
differ only through the extension.

2.7.1 Install GDOS

Every GDOS contains three parts. Firstly the programme GDOS.PRG, or a similar
GDOS programme (AMCGDOS.PRG, NVDI.PRG, etc.) This programme has to be located in
the Auto-folder in the boot partition of the hard disc or on the starting disc.
The top level of this boot drive contains a file called ASSIGN.SYS. The path for
the folder "GEMSYS" is located here as well and all device driver registered in
GDOS have to be contained here, this applies to the device driver for your
printer as well. The file in our example is in the top level of drive A.

Very often the driver is delivered with a printer if you have bought your ATARI
from a specialist shop. There are a multitude of public domain disks around,
equipped with a collection of such GDOS drivers. If you do not posses a driver
for your printer contact your specialist (or us), unless it is a very unusual
model we try to help.

If you are in possession of a driver you will have to enter it with a texteditor
in the ASSIG.SYS file. The set No has to be either 21, 22 or 23, and the name of
the driver has to be entered according to shown example. You then save the
edited file ASSIGN.SYS. The driver now has to be copied into the file GEMSYS.

You have to perform a cold start in order for the computer to recognise the
changes (switch computer of and on again).

2.8 changing the close of the active fax page

If you are working with a 14" monitor you can only see a small part of an A4
page during display in scale 1 monitor pixel = 1 fax pixel. In order to be able
to see nearly the full width of a page we have installed a zoom function which
reduces or enlarges the fax. You can activate this function with the keys "="
and "-", always assuming a loaded fax. You can reduce the active window in 4
steps. Size 100%, 50%, 25% and 12% are available in "Parameter".

If you own a large monitor the step 50% shows the full page.

12% gives only a rough overview, you can not read the text.

2.9 Selection button "turn" 180O

It is possible to receive a fax page which has been inserted "upside down" into
the fax machine. Such fax is difficult to read and the function "turn" solves
this problem, the content of the transmitted page will be turned by 180O.

2.10 select button "load fax"

There are drivers for several existing programmes which store pages in Qfax
format (Hufman coding). Normally these drivers are supplied together with the
programmes. CoMa is able to send these files via fax of course. We have not
designed another fax format on purpose in order not to extend the existing
confusion on the market, though not all competitors agree with us there.

This means you can load old Qfax pages and send them with CoMa (this obviously
works also the other way round, but we do not hope this is necessary). You can
use all drivers with Qfax format to construct a fax page. We are offering our
programme helps for fax drivers because Qfax will not be developed any further,
which means that new software products can be supplied with fax drivers. These
helps are in folder DEVELOP on the diskette. It is preferable though to develop
a driver which designs IMG-files. These are lo ded faster with CoMa.

If you select this function the integrated file selection box appears. Here you
can select the drive, the folder and the data file you want to load. The fax
page is displayed in a window on your screen. The first of the 8 select button
is marked grey if you have not opened a window for fax pages yet. If you want to
store a further page without overwriting the first page you have to activate the
second button. An empty window will be displayed which can then be filled with
a fax page.

This function is made simpler if you have got SELECTRIC as selection box
installed. You can select several files and load them with this.

The pop-up-menue ofevery fax window gives You the possibility to convert a
Hufman fax page into a IMG file (Save IMG?). Of course, you can also go the
other way around and change a IMG file into a high compressed Hufman file (Save
F.0?)!

 2.11 "folder transmission"

The last select button is slightly larger than the previously described function
buttons. The name of the folder is displayed in the select button used last for
sending a complete fax-folder.

Sometimes it is necessary to send more than 8 fax pages together. To make this
possible the pages have to be in a file. The numbering of the pages has to be
continuous, EXAMPLE.F01, SAMPLE.F02, TEST.F03 a.s.o. If you want to send the
same fax pages very often it makes sense to create a special folder for this.
Should you then wish to send such a folder click the button "send folder". The
file selection box appears and you can select the required folder and leave the
selection box via ok. The name of the requested folder has to be displayed with
the selection button. If the path name is very long it is only possible to
read the end of the name.

If a folder is send you always have the possibility to send a top page as well.
Type the necessary text into the dialogbox and leave with "ok". The top page
will be displayed in a window immediately. The main selection box will be in the
background, which means it is not visible any more. You can transfer the box to
the front again with a click of the right mouse button or by clicking F10. If
you now select "send" the top page will be send first and afterwards directly
the contents of the folder.

If you do not want to send a top page just close the window with the text before
sending.

2.12 Select button "receive"

Receiving an incoming fax is possible by clicking on this function. This can be
done manual via clicking on receive or automatically.

We have to dampen the joy about receiving automatically right at the beginning.
1. The computer has to be adjusted with an electronic devise at the first bell
sign. A 24 hour stand by is neither economical nor ecological, not to mention
the ageing process due to continuos use. Unfortunately the start of the Atari
computer can take a little bit longer than a calling fax machine is willing to
wait. Perhaps you have to switch off all programmes in the auto-file and all the
accessories. All this is no problem if you have our computer switch WAKE_UP and
the boot-programme MAKE_BOOT. Both work together with CoMa and your computer is
switched off after a fax has been received!

If you want to use your computer fax with only one telefon line you should work
with a voice modem like a Zyxel or a Creatix LC144VF!

These modem can work with CoMa as Fax and answering maschine and they can
recognize if a fax or a voice call has to be recorded. For more details see
chapter 3!

2.13. Automatical reception with CoMa

We will give you a few tips to enable a stable usage should you have the
necessary hardware to receive calls automatically.

To ensure that the starting time of the computers remains short you have to make
sure that all accessories and programmes in the file AUTO are switched off.
Helpful are programmes like XBOOT or others with which the ACCs and Auto folder
programmes can be configurated.

Therefore make sure that only CoMa as ACC is active. Also take care that a
number above O has been entered into the programme window for "lift after X
rings". Otherwise nothing goes! Furthermore the ring-indicator line in the cable
between modem and computer has to be connected.

If you use the computer switch WAKE_UP the serial cable is connected through
WAKE_UP and keeps the computer working while data is flowing.

2.14 Manual reception of fax pages.

It is easiest to receive a manual fax if the telephone has been slipped through
the modem. Should you then hear the typical sound of a fax transmission after
lifting the telephone receiver please call the ACC CoMa and press the button
receive.

You have to enter a O into "lift after X rings" for the manual reception,
otherwise the modem will let CoMa receive automatically and the caller will just
hear the beeps. And if you are unlucky he calls off already before you have
taken over the call by pressing Esc, Undo or Ctrl + right shift key.

Another advise. Some fax machines or modems do not send a sound called fax
calling tone as long as the maschine itself don't hear anything. This sounds as
if nobody is on the line. Press receive all the same and let CoMa deal with the
fax parameter.

Now CoMa will let the Modem receive, take over the telephone line, receive the
pages and store them (and perhaps print them automatically).

Programme part receive contains a novelty for fax programmes which we would not
want to omit to mention. The incoming pages are build up on the screen line by
line. You will see immediately what is coming in.

When you have stored your fax you will normally have read it already and you do
not have to access another programme part.

The pages will be printed automatically if the button "print-immed" has been
activated in the parameter adjustment.

2.15 Select button "send"

After you have loaded one or more fax pages you only have to click on "send".
The modem will dial and negotiate the transmission parameters and start with the
transmission immediately. There are no waiting times with CoMa until the fax
pages have been coded for transmission, all this is done without time delay in
the back ground during the transmission. The comment line shows you during
transmission the Baud-rate and the resolve. The identification of the other fax
machine is also displayed.

At the end of the transmission you see here if an error has occurred. Error
messages are kept in clear text and explain themselves. You can adjust in the
window "INFO" if you want to receive these messages in German or English.

2.16 Fax number administration

CoMa contains a file in which the fax numbers can be stored, independently of
our office software First Million.

This file is a text file and compatible to fax number file of QFax. Should you
already own a FAXNUM.INF you can use this immediately. There are two buttons in
the CoMA GEM window for the use of the number administration.

   Numbers

Click once on this button and you receive a window in which all fax numbers are
sorted in alphabetical order.

You take over the name and number into the CoMa window with a double click on a
name and you can start the fax.

This list contains an auto-search module as well. Just type the first letter
after opening the window and the first name with this letter will be activated.
Type another letter and the selection continues. Should you have made a mistake
press the ESC key and you will be at the beginning of the selection. You can
start again.

  Insert

This button is necessary if you want to add a new number into the list. First
type the name and the fax number into the necessary fields. Pay attention to the
way of writing to ensure proper Surname/Christian name order. Click on insert
and the data will be in your fax list.

We have decided against automatical insertion of new fax numbers on purpose
because it very often leads to doubles, for instance if you use a known number
not via the list but by hand. In order for the list to sort according to
surnames you have to input the surname first. Between surname and christian name
the sign "smaller than" will be put. If you call on this name for a fax CoMa
will automatically turn it around again.

   delete of data

Should you need to delete entrants in your list you do not have to use a text
edit because this will also be done from CoMa.

Call via the "numberlist" the list of fax number and mark the ones for deletion
with a single click of the left mouse button. Afterwards press keys "Ctrl" and
"Delete" simultaneously and the entry has gone.

   Edit

With the help of this function you can make a comment for this number and show
it in the number list.

2.17 Administration of received fax pages

If you receive faxes automatically with CoMa they will be stored with the
relevant ID in the folder INCOMING. If you used the option print immediately you
can remove the pages from the printer and read them. The alternative to this
existed by searching the file incoming for new fax pages. This was more and more
complicated depending on how much data existed already. This procedure belongs
now to the past, CoMa organises all incoming fax in a separate window which you
can access via the button "calls". Should a new fax have arrived after the last
"call" which have not been read yet the button will flicker. Faxes called for
reading already will be ticked before entry.

You can delete entries which are read and printed and not needed anymore easily.
Make sure that not only the advise in the window is deleted but also the fax
data on the hard disc.

Locate your mouse indicator on the open window "calls" and click the right mouse
button. You will then see the pop-up-menu "calls" with several entries. Select
"delete" and all lines marked with the mouse click will be deleted (or type
Control + Delete Key together). But be careful, deletion applies to the file
itself as well.

With the entry "select all" you can mark all entries for deletion.

The entry "play new" refers to the calls which are entered by the voice-module.

In fact of the name of the sender of a fax is much more intresting then his
telphonnumber we buildt in the function "Edit". Every entry in the calls list
can be edited now.

If the telephonnumber of the sender is stored in the numbers list CoMa
automatically writes his name into the calls list!

2.18 Serial fax and time delayed fax

The cost of a telephone call is much cheeper at night time. To make you able to
send a fax at night without waiting at your computer you can use the function
"Serial Fax" in the pop-up-menue of a fax window.

At first load the fax pages to send into a window. Now klick the number in the
number list and call the pop-up-menue "numbers". Here you find the function
"Serial Fax".

You will get the following window where you can give in the date and the time.

To send the same fax to more then one receiver you must only activate the
numbers by klicking on them with holding down the SHIFT key.

If one of the receiver is busy CoMa puts this number at the end of the list and
tries it again. The number of the retries depends on what you have writen into
the field "dial repeats" in the fax parameter window.

2.19 update

Programmes with a sensible support will be continuously developed further. CoMa
does not make every user happy either. Nearly every day we receive calls and
please with regard to programme functions. If we like those ideas, which we have
not implemented to our lack of imagination, we start to translate them
immediately. Result: the programme you bought 4 weeks ago is not the latest
standard. You will have to order an update from your dealer. This can be very
expensive. You will not have this problem with CoMa so very often. You can
change every actual shareware version into a licensed CoMa version with the
registration key received from us. This works till a large step in the
development has occurred, or the programme has been extensively further
developed. Unfortunately, we as well have to earn money with the development of
our products. The first update fee will be necessary from version 1.80, sorry.
After you have absorbed CoMa all you have to do is to enter the personal date
into the registration window and the matching key, ready.

From version 1.80 you do not have to registrate newly. It is sufficient to
change the new programme COMA.APP (COMA.ACC) against the old one and you are
able to enjoy the new functions.

But keep this warning: Make a savety copie of the old CoMa version before you
copie the new one onto your harddisk.

The button "edit registration" will start the text editor and you can fill in a
order form for the registration key. choose the right form:
Deutsch/Commonwealth/Rest of the world.

The shown dialogue box has to be entered only for the first registration.

2.20 help button

The main key order have been inserted into a window which can be accessed via
the "help" button.

2.21 using CoMa via command line

You can control CoMa with command line-orders from version 1.40. Here are the
already implemented commands. If you are missing commands or return-codes
contact us.

-n name name1 set

-n2 name name2 set

-fn faxnumber faxnumber set

2.22 Development library

We have taken great care to optimise the working speed for the creation of fax
files. After you have worked for some time with CoMa you will note that this has
been achieved quite well. In order to enable other programmers to develop in
their own programmes the same fast routines you will find development helps for
drivers in the folder DEVELOP. You can design your own driver according to the
shown examples there. We would be happy if many programmers make use of this
offer. We would be overjoyed though if programmers could use printer driver for
there programmes who can create IMG files with 200 dpl resolve. CoMa will work
in highest performance with such files.

Reason It is not very sensible to create fax files coded according to the Hufman
version. Much more effective are pixel graphics in GEM-IMG format, which are
created with 200 dpl. These files are much faster displayed on the monitor. CoMa
is creating the coding for the fax page anyway during the transmission. Perhaps
one should negotiate this standard.

2.23 dial only

This function explains itself. You can change your modem here to a dial
automate. enter the desired telephone number and press button "dial only" and
your modem starts dialling. This works best when you have slipped your telephone
through the modem line. As soon as the connection answers you can induce your
modem to disconnect by pressing Esc or Ctrl + left shift key. The call will then
be transferred to your telephone receiver and yo can start talking.

You can also use the fax number administration as a telephone book. You should
mark the entries which are only telephone numbers with a special sign. This
helps to clarify.

2.24 polling

This is a function which was supported so far by Zyxel Modem and does not
function in the firmware 6.10 and 6.11. This will be changed nearly immediately
when modem according to the new standard Class 2.0 are available. This command
is defined in this fax standard.

This function enables you to call fax pages from radio stations, official
departments and companies. You can get the weather forecast and the actual
weather chart, some radio stations send the latest top 20 list a.s.o. A lot of
companies will probably change to polling for special advertisements and not
send automatically a fax to all customers. This saves a lot of cost for
companies and the much abused customer saves fax paper. For this to function you
have to enter the relevant call command for polling into the parameter. The
shown example is for the Zyxel modem with the firmware 6.00

Of course you can use CoMa the other way around. There is a path you can create
for polling from your computer. The path for your own faxmailbox can be fixed in
the field "Send Poll".

2.25 HSMODEM

The programme diskette contains an auto-folder with a part of the serial drive
HSMODAO2 by Harun Scheutzow. We included only the absolute necessary part of the
extensive programme package so as not to confuse the less technical interested
customer.

The complete package contains more drivers for hardware extensions, detailed
descriptions of the individual drivers, documentation for programmers and a
setter-programme for configuration of the driver.

You can receive the package from every good mailbox as HSMODAO2.LZH or directlz
from Harun Scheutzow by sending a formated 3.5" blank disk with stamped
addressed envelope or against payment of DM10.

Mousenet: Harun Scheutzow Internet. Harun_Scheutzow B.maus.de (Please do not
send mails larger than 16kByte due to the limitations of the mouse net) Address:
Harun Scheutzow, Dresdener Strasse 83 D-10179 Berlin, Germany.

This package contains serial drivers. There is an individual driver for every
port or every port building block. The user therefore has got the trouble with
choosing the matching drivers, but also the advantage to load ony drivers he
needs.

It has become necessary to use a serial driver because of the necessary data
transfer rate for the voice part >19200 Baud. The operating system has got no
routines available for this. Furthermore is the operating system routine in
TOS.3.06 unfortunately still erroneous.

Main part is the programme DRVIN.PRG, which has to be in the auto-file of every
computer. The driver module for the used interface has to be loaded depending on
the existing port.

ST, STE, Mega ST: MFP.PRG

Mega STE: MFP.PRG + SCC.PRG

TT: MFP.PRG, SCC.PRG, MFP_TT.PRG

Falcon: SCC.PRG

2.26 How to install HSMODEM in the auto-folder

Please select the correct driver according to the type of computer. Please pay
special attention to the order of the programme in the auto-file.

The main programme DRVIN.PRG should be at the far back (but in front of the
drivers) due to reasons of speed. DRVIN.PRG and the drivers should be located in
the front of programmes installed in the auto-folder which are to be used by the
drivers. Otherwise there will be error messages or nice little explosions.

It is easy to identify the sequence with the TOS from version 2.0 or a relevant
shell by having the output of the index unsorted. The necessary entry can be
found in the pulldown menu "extras" of the ATARI desktop.

For older versions of TOS all programmes have to be copied from the folder AUTO
into a different index to ensure that the auto-folder is empty. Afterwards the
programmes are to be copied back into the desired index.

    operation diagram for installation

This paragraph describes the installation under TOS and MagiC! shortly and
hopefully understandably. This should be taken as programme and "worked" from
front to back.

1. Should you have a programme in \AUTO\ folder that uses the serial interface
you have to copy it out.

2. Remove installed patch programmes from the \AUTO\ for the serial interface,
like RS23ENC, TURBOCTS,SERIALFX.

3. Choose the drivers you need from this package. First copy DRVIN.PRG into the
\AUTO\folder, then copy the chosen driver afterwards. The sequence of the
drivers is not important.

The installation is now finished. Boot the computer new and call up the
programme or acessory CoMa. The entry "HSModem" should appear in the fax
parameterbox, this means the installation was successful.

We would like to say thank you to Harun for providing the HSMODEM free of
charge. Without this the voice module from CoMa would not have been possible on
8-MHz computers as well as the back ground procession for fax.

2.27 Keywords for the texteditor

With the function "text" you can call up a text editor that is included in CoMa.
It is possible to load and save text files. CoMa gives you the possiblity to
place the name, the faxnumber and some other information on this form as you
like it. There are special keywords that have to be placed in the text.

<NAME1> the first name in the numberlist

<NAME2> the second name in the numberlist

<FAXNR> faxnumber from the numberlist

<D> actual day taken from the computer system

<M> month

<Y> year

<h> hour

<m> minute

<s> second

<PAGES> number of pages to send

You can place the keywords wherever you want in the text. Make shure that the
text is not mixed with your letterhead grafik. You should make a file called
DEFAULT.TXT where you place the keywords as you need them. This file will be
used as default text for the text editor.

2.28 graphiclogo and adjusting the path

CoMa lets you install 4 header and footer graphics for the cover sheet. The
header can be used as letterhead, the footer may be as sign under the text. You
can use the editor in CoMa to create the text, or you use another text editor
and load the text with "load 1WP". The graphic and the text will be mixed and
displayed at once. Of course you have to leave enough place at the head of the
text, so that text and graphic are not mixed together!

If you use the editor in CoMa you can use the keywords shown in chapter 2.27 to
create a letter just as you like it and as it is necessary for your graphic. If
you save this text as DEFAULT.TXT and make "Save Parameter" CoMa will always
take this text file if you open the editor!

To adjust the path for the graphics you have to go to the main window in CoMa.
With a click on the button "header" or "footer" you open the shown pop-up-menu.

To load a new graphic use the function "new" beside the slot you want to use.
You see the file-select-box of your computer. Adjust the path to the logo and
the new logo will be displayed at once!

2.29 Fax Jobs with CoMa

Chapter 2.17 explained our serial fax function. It was possible to
send the same fax page to a selected number of people at a selected
time. Very often though, one would like to send differing fax at
various times to a selected number of people. So far it was necessary
for this to work on each fax separately. This meant of course one had
to wait every time for the computer to finish the transaction. For
customer who wanted to use CoMa for business purposes it meant they
had to physically sit at there computers after 6 pm in order to take
advantage of the cheaper telephone rates.

Altogether not a very satisfying solution. Therefore we extended CoMa
with another easy to apply job administration. This extension can also
be applied for the network. It does not matter which kind of net,
Midi for Ataris or Appletalk for the Mac. CoMa is then installed in
the server and a fax job will be overplayed in the appropriate folder.
And because CoMa checks this folder once every five minutes for fax
jobs the job is done within 60 seconds if no time delay is asked for.

2.30 Creation of a fax job

The creation of a job starts with the selection of a fax number from
the fax number a directory (shift+F10). After this you write or load
the required fax page(s), activate the window in which the fax page
can be seen and call up the Pop-Up-Menu "IMAGE". A dialog box will
appear in which you can set the time and date at which the job is
supposed to be transmitted. Leave the box with "OK" and CoMa saves the
fax page(s) in a special file under the name of the receiver. Systems
with limited space for data names (8 signs for Atari) shorten the name
to the first 8 letters. CoMa includes a text date in this file as well
which includes all necessary data for this job. This text file has to
have the name SENDINFO.TXT otherwise Coma can not evaluate it.

NAME:Hartmann<Siegfried
NUMBER:030/622 68 84
DATE:09:23
REPEAT:10
DPI:100

As you can see in the structure of the ASCII-text this file can also
be created with a text editor. For this you have to create a folder
with the name HARTMANN in the outgoing folder of COMA. The fax page
belongs in there together with the small text of the information who,
where and how often. If you leave out the command REPEAT CoMa will use
the programmed dial tries. If you leave out date and time CoMa will
start transmission at once. This means that your SENDINFO.TXT for an
immediate fax job needs only two lines. The fax pages have to have the
extension .F01, F02 etc. The name of the file is not important but in
order to have a bett overview the origin should be recognisable. If
the fax job has been created with CoMa the fax page will always carry
the name COMA_JOB,F01 etc. You can define and work 3 such jobs in the
standard version of CoMa and CoMa-Voice, whereas the numbers of
possible fax jobs are restricted in CoMa professional. The computer
has to be switched on of course at the time CoMa is supposed to deal
with these jobs and the button "Jobs" in the main dialogbox of CoMa
has to be activated! Only if this job function is activated will CoMa
scan the folder OUTGOING every 5 minutes of jobs due.

CoMa shows you in the comment line at activated job function the
number of jobs still to deal with.

2.31 Job administration

The main dialog box contains a button for the list of jobs received as
well as a button for the list of received calls. This window opens as
qwell if you press the key combination Shift+F9.

All the jobs CoMa still finds in the folder OUTGOING are entered here.
You can see at one glance all the important date for the jobs. After
the name of the file (receiver) of unfinished jobs 2 numbers will
appear.

The first number indicates hor many times CoMa tried to transmit
already. The second number indicates the number of the selected repeat
dials. Finished jobs carry the entry "Ready" instead of the numbers.
If a job has been successfully transmitted CoMa will also change the
name of the file if the TOS is not older than 1.4. The extension .RDY
will be added to the file name. For every dialtrz a file with 0 Bytes
and the extension .CNT is written in this folder, this has the only
function to count the dial tries. It is not possible to change the
name of files in very old TOS versions and CoMa will include after
successful transmission here under TOS <1,4 the figure 9999.

This only as background information, successful transmissions are in
any case entered in the job list (Shift+F9) and can be noted easily
with the entry "READY".

2.32The Pop-Up-Menu "Jobs"

After the jobs are processed they are entered in the window "Job" with
the status "Ready". All the files are still contained in the folder
OUTGOING but have got the extension RDY as described above (If TOS not
<1.4).

In order to simplify the delete of unnecessary job files the window
contains a Pop-Up-Menu with two commands. You can activate all entries
with the status "Ready" with "Select RDY" and the command "Delete"
deletes after a safety check all entries marked in the list and the
appropriate files in the OUTGOING folder.

2.33 Mergin of GDOS-fonts

The programme will use the systems own font in 20 pt if you create a
fax page with CoMa`s text editor. This can look quite boring, and of
course there are various beautiful GDOS fonts which can be used with
24 pt as well.

We therefore installed an interface to the GDOS which makes it easily
possible to use all fonts which are prescribed in GDOS for your fax.
You will need an external Fontselector with appropriate writing.

We recommend CALVINO as font selector by DIRK HAUN. This programme
works according to the "drag&drop" principle and is a shareware. It is
therefore contained in our FTP-servers with a small selection of
usable fonts.

It is very easy to work with CALVINO. You choose the desired font in
the font selector and drag the font onto the fax window of CoMa. The
window will be displayed at once in the new font.

If you then enter the command "Save Parameters" CoMa will recognise
the font and save it as long as you do not select a different one.

Every Fax page can therefore have a different font.

Of course you can also use proportional characters which helps the
readability as well.

You can also give other windows in CoMa a different GDOS-Font. But
you should always choose an unproportuined character for better
readability.

2.34 The Clipboard

The clipboard is a very practical function which unfortunately finds
little support. CoMa is able to work with the Clipboard as well.

Sometimes one does not want to send the fax page as first or second
but the third page. This can of course be achieved by loading every
single page individually, takes long and is fussy. Here helps the
GEM-CLIPBOARD.

ACTIVATE the page which should be covered by the clip board. In order
to copy this page press key combination Ctrl + C . The contents is now in
the clipboard.

Open the window in which the contents of the clipboard should be
copied and press Ctrl + V.
