4.0 The mini-mail-box or the FTP-server

We will now show you that CoMa can also work as answering machine
if you have got the necessary hardware. Please let us introduce
our mini-mail-box. This enables you to contact your
computer when you are not at home and you are able to read and
write files etc. We know this idea is not new but it is the
first time that it can be achieved from just one programme. CoMa
carries its name "Communication Manager" with proud
justification.

The mailbox lets you log into your computer via a supervisor
password and gives access to all your stored data.

It is possible to give guests access to special folders and also
to have another folder for friends. You can create as many access
levels as you like with the professional-version of CoMa.

4.1 System requirements and Z-modem (GSZRZ from V3.8)

You will need an ATARI with at least 1 MB main memory and a hard
disk for the mailbox to function. A Z-modem programme has to
be installed as well to enable data exchange automatically. CoMa
has been prepared in the present version with the Z-modem (from
version 3,8) by Michael Ziegler, Jagdfeldring 16, D-85540 Haar.
The programme is called GSZRZ.PRG and is marketed as shareware,
it can be pulled from most mail-boxes. The use in the shareware
version is limited but for DM 30,00 you can buy the full version
from the manufacturer. This programme can be found in our mailbox
as well, telephone number 004930-62709459.

4.2 Installation of the mailbox

	1. installation of Z-modem-protocol

First step of the installation : copy the programme GSZRZ-xx.PRG
on the boot drive. Make up your mind if you would like to use it
as ACC or PRG. For ACC it has to be re-named into GSZRZ_ST.ACC,
GSZRZ_30.ACC or GSZRZ_SW.ACC. Restart the computer and the Z-
modem programme is ready for the automatic data exchange. If you do not want
it to be in the memory as GSZRZ_xx.ACC you can register it as PRG or APP in
the parameter box for the mailbox. CoMa starts the programme then according
to need. The GSZRZ_xx.PRG can be located anywhere on the hard disk because
you adjust the path under parameter "Mailbox".

	2. Activate the mini-mailbox

First you have to choose a setting in the parameter dialog box
"General" under "Connect" which switchs on the mailbox. This
would be "Fax+data" for the standard version of CoMa. The mini-
mailbox is switched on and off via this pop-up-menu.

4.3 Parameter settings "Mailbox"

You receive this dialog box by clicking the button "Parameter" in
the main dialog box, then choose the entry "Mailbox" in the displayed
pop-up-menu. You will receive a dialog box in which all relevant
default settings for the mini mailbox are made.

	Password Supervisor

Chose a password as supervisor, make it difficult to break. Bear
in mind that anybody knowing your password has access to all your
data. The password can cary special characters as well.

**************Please take care!!*************************
The Company Softbear UK and Softbear Gbr do not carry any
liablity
for problems or damage due to unauthorised access to your
computer.
**********************************************************

Now follow the settings for the various paths. The path setting
functions in the same way as elsewhere in CoMa. With a click on
the path setting you open the file selection box and now you can
set your path comfortably.

	Greeting text

You can set the path for a text file under "Greeting Text" and
the caller will read the welcome in the terminal window.

	Upload

Set a path for files send to you, i.e. files coming from "abroad"
into your computer.

	Mails

This path serves for storing electronic mail send by a caller
with the function "Mail". (We integrated this function into the
mailbox)

	Password friends, Friend Download

You can define a password and a special folder (Friend download)
to give access to certain people. This folder can be branched in
many subordinate folders. The user of this password will not have
access to higher levels in the folder hierarchy. A change in the
partition is not possible either.

	Timeout

The connection will be cut off after a set time if no more
entries are made by the caller. You make sure this way that the
computer is not unnecessarily blocked if the caller does not
leave the mail box correctly with the command "Exit".

	Password Guest, Guest download

We have decided to use the password "Guest" for access to a
special folder for guests. This password is generally used for
this purpose and we did not want to change it. If you only want
a chosen group of friends to have access to this folder you can
change the password. In this case the mailbox gives no advice
about a guest access after log-into the mailbox.

	Adjustments for the Z-modem protocol

		GSZRZ if no ACC

As mentioned at the beginning you can enter a path for the
programme GSZRZ by Michael Ziegler if you want to use it as
programme and not as accessory. The following command lines are
only necessary if you are using a different programme. The
relevant parameter for call-up of the Z-modem protocoll have to
be set here.

		-sz
The command line Parameter has to stand at this place to call the
Z-modem programme to send data.

		-rz
The parameter for the z-modem to receive data.

4.4 Setting for send-modem

You have to make an alteration for the modem accessing the mini-
mailbox externally if you want to work with CoMa Voice.

Before the exchange of data the announcement of the answering
machine starts and the pre-set time to recognise the carrier-tone
is not sufficient in most cases. The modem cuts off normally
after 30 - 60 seconds and reports "no carrier". If you calculate
the time to start the computer, the announcement and the
negotiation of the transferrate you easily find that 60 seconds
are necessary. We recommend that you set the "Wait for Carrier
Detect" to 120 seconds, there should be no further problems then.

According to the standard Hayes command the register to change
this time is at S7.

Please find out in the handbook for your modem if the register S7
is adjustable. Then you can set the register permanently to 90 or 120
seconds. Best would be to enter a terminal programme like Rufus
or Connect and send following commands:

ATS7=120       <return key>
AT&W <return key>
AT&V <return key>

After the first 2 commands the modem writes OK on the screen. The
whole configuration has to be reported back by the modem after
the last command. We are only interested to find in "active
Profile" the register S7 at 120 (or 90).

It is sufficient to make the alteration once and save it because
the register is reset firm.

4.5 Command for the supervisor

You have obviously more command available as user of the mini
mailbox than the guest. The access of the guest is limited to one
folder but you have access to all folders and files. The
following commands are available for this:

Command overview

X: change of partition (change of drive)
cd `pathname` switch to different folder
calls display new entries in the "Calls list"
delete delete of files
cp copy file
rename rename file

Commands described in the next chapter are available to you as
well.

4.6 Commands access for guests

The guest can only access one folder each for "upload" and
"download". You can branch out folders into this folder as well,
i.e. create subordinate folders. The guest cannot leave the
folder "Guest". You adjust the path for this in the dialogue box
"Parameter FTP". Follwoing commands are then available for him:

help or? delivers an overview of all possible
commands in this mini mail box

ls or dir shows directory

show `file name` Shows ASCII file, file name represents the
name
of the file to be displayed
cd `file name` change to subordinate folder

login re-log with new password

get `file name` starts down load (poll) of file with the
                     name file intake via Z-modem

cd.. one folder level higher (only folders
                     made accessible for guests!!)

exit this commands ends the excursion in the
                     mailbox

The usual wildcards can be used to enter the file names. The name
of the file can be abbreviated with *.If the command *.* is
entered all files are transmitted in this folder.

CoMa recognises automatically if you want to send a file into the
CoMa mailbox with the Z-modem and the file reception is
activated. The file is then stored in the path for "Upload".

4.7 The "Mail" function

A caller can write a message to the supervisor directly with the
command "mail". This text file wil be stored under the path
"mails" and marked in the calls list.

Double click on this entry and the text file is displayed. The
entry in the calls list gives you the name of the caller used at
login.

The supervisor can write a message to the caller during data-
connect as well. It will be displayed on the monitor. This way
the supervisor might be able to give assistance to the guest
should he just happen to sit at the computer.

4.8 Three ways to create a data-connect (CoMa Voice is working)

There should be no problem for a modern modem to make a connect
for CoMa mailboxy on principle. Every modem should really send a
data-calling-tone and everything would work automatically. If
this is not the case you have to cheat to make a data call to
CoMa.

We show you three tricks to make this work even for bad hardware:

1. You call your mailbox with a modem and receive first the announcement
text. After that CoMa records for 7 seconds. If CoMa recognises only silence
during this time it will try to make a data connect. It is absolute necessary
that the register S7 has been configurated correctly for this, otherwise the
time to recognise the data carrier is not sufficient.

2. You call your mailbox with a telephone and send the number 9
according to the DMTF when you hear the announcement text. CoMa
interrupts the announcement and tries at once to make a data
connect. After you have pressed 9 you have to pass on the line
quickly to the modem.

This works reliably if you have already called your terminal
programme and typed the string ATD. When you notice that CoMa
interrupts the message you have to press the return key and that
is it.

3. Most popular types of modem (all modems with a BT-
registration) send a data-calling-tone when calling. The
annoncement will be interrupted and the programme tries to make a
data-connect at once if your receiving modem evaluates this tone
and informs CoMa. This works only from firmware 6.11 with Zyxel
modem. The transfer does not function at all with the file
module in the firmware 1.4 of Creatix LC144VF. The firmware 1.5,
available since 1994 has not got this error any more.

Finally another known incompatibility of the mailbox caused by
tha hardware of certain modems.

No data-connect can be made if you call a modem that sends
the data-calling-tone, but your receiving modem does not evaluate
it. In this this case return to method 2 or buy a new modem.
